Offsite backup beta program
The cooperative storage cloud is a simple solution to a complex issue. What happens is: you contibute spare storage capacity on your server to the cloud and in return you receive storage in the cloud, what could be simpler. Here’s how it works:
Step 1
Data from your local backup system is encrypted on your computer using federally certified 256-bit AES algorithms. Data remains encrypted at all times.
Step 2
The encrypted data is divided into redundant fragments using industry standard Reed-Solomon encoding for robust durability and high availability.
Step 3
All data files are automatically mirrored into the storage cloud. This adds offsite protection to your onsite backup. The fragmented data is randomly distributed to multiple destination nodes in the network to ensure that no single node holds all the data.
Step 4
Data can be retrieved and/or restored at any time. Data is sent and retrieved in parallel to maximize the speed of backup and restore.
Step 5
Data is decrypted and available for access on your local system.
So what are the benefits?
By using a cooperative storage cloud there is no need for expensive data centres which consume huge amounts of power so we can pass on significant cost savings, we are currently looking at implementing a “flat fee” system rather than the traditional “per gigabyte” pricing model.
